Describe Heartland’s core technology, the LM-HT® Concentrator.
The Heartland Concentrator is a direct contact evaporator system bringing thermal energy and the targeted wastewater into direct contact. What sources can be used as thermal energy for the Heartland LM-HT® Concentrator?
Heartland’s core technology, the LM-HT® Concentrator, can use a variety of sources for the thermal energy required for the evaporative process. They include waste heat from landfill or natural gas flares, waste heat from internal combustion engines or turbines, flue gas from coal fired power plants, natural gas, landfill gas, propane, or other combustion gases. What type of heat exchangers are used in the Heartland LM-HT® Concentrator?
There are no heat exchangers within the Heartland Concentrator. Wastewater and thermal energy are continuously brought into direct contact eliminating the need for heat exchangers of any type. What are the advantages of not having heat exchangers?
Key advantages of eliminating heat exchangers from the evaporation process include complete elimination of all fouling issues, operations & maintenance issues related to heat exchangers, reduced capital costs, reduced footprint, and increased operating reliability and uptime. What type of pretreatment is required for the Heartland LM-HT® Concentrator?
The vast majority of wastewaters processed require no pretreatment of any kind. However, Heartland does offer pretreatment solutions for a range of compounds depending on client and site-specific needs. What type of water chemistries can be processed by the Heartland LM-HT® Concentrator?
The Heartland Concentrator system has the ability to process a wide range of water chemistries regularly found within the electric power generation (e.g. FGD purge water, mixed ash landfill leachate, pond remediation), oil and gas (e.g. produced water), solid waste landfill leachate, mining impacted waters, and other industrial wastewater streams. What type of volume reduction can be achieved?
The extent of volume reduction that can be achieved is a function of many factors including available thermal energy, the chemistry of the targeted waste water, and how residuals from the process will be managed. Heartland works closely with each client to understand the specific needs of each project and designs a site-specific process and layout to achieve project goals.Does Heartland offer a zero liquid discharge (ZLD) option?
Yes. A ZLD option is likely available for many wastewater streams within the electric power generation, oil and gas, and landfill leachate industries. Heartland works closely with clients to determine the feasibility of a ZLD option and the specifics of residual solidification and stabilization. What types of outputs are produced from the Heartland LM-HT® Concentrator?
There are two outputs from the Heartland Concentrator system, a concentrated wastewater stream or slurry, and a saturated water vapor stream. Is the Heartland LM-HT® Concentrator easy to clean and service?
Yes. When routine cleaning is required, multiple quick opening doors allow rapid access to the equipment and key process elements. No tools are required and doors open in seconds. Cleaning is normally limited to rinsing from outside of the doors with a hose using feed wastewater and mild operating temperatures allow wash down to commence within minutes of shutdown. What type of control system is used?
The Heartland system is fully PLC controlled for all key operating functions. It routinely monitors and records key operating metrics and includes a suite of equipment, process and site-specific safety features tailored to each system. Heartland works closely with clients to integrate our PLC control system into existing operations to complement and support existing automation and data collection services.Describe Heartland Water Technology.
Heartland Water Technology is a privately held company formed in 2009. The senior management and advisory team brings over 200 years’ experience in multiple disciplines spanning the wastewater treatment, evaporation, solid waste, oil/gas, engineering, legal, finance, and environmental service industries. What are Heartland Water Technology core target markets?
Heartland currently offers volume reduction solutions to clients in the electric power generation, oil and gas, and solid waste industries.Describe Heartland Water Technology intellectual property (IP) program?
Heartland Water Technology maintains an active intellectual property program with the assistance of Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP (www.marshallip.com). Heartland believes that continuous innovation allows us to solve difficult challenges in ways that are better than the status quo for our clients and the environment. Can the Heartland LM-HT® Concentrator be located indoors or outdoors?
Yes. The simple, reliable design of the Heartland Concentrator system can be located both indoors or outdoors depending on client needs and site requirements. If necessary, all critical components are insulated and heat traced to allow outdoor operations in even the coldest winter climates. What is the footprint of a Heartland LM-HT® Concentrator system?
The footprint and process boundary are jointly developed with clients based on system size, infrastructure availability, site-specific requirements and process needs. In general, the Heartland system requires a small footprint of +/- 2500 square feet and can be located indoors or outdoors. Please provide a general estimate of the number of gallons per day (GPD) that can be evaporated from a variety of different thermal energy sources.
