CHRIS BEAUFAIT

Chris Beaufait is President and CEO of Heartland. Serving as a member of Heartland’s Board of Directors since 2017 and a proven leader in building global technology-focused businesses, Chris is responsible for leading the company's strategic direction and driving growth across all areas of the business.

Prior to Heartland Chris served in executive roles with the General Electric Company, Vestas, and Sarcos Robotics. Most recently he served as the President and CEO of Sharper Shape Inc., an asset intelligence software solution company which utilizes automation and artificial intelligence (AI) to help customers improve operations, reliability, and safety of critical infrastructure.

Chris served for 11 years in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Officer and certified nuclear engineer. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with a B.S. in Systems Engineering holding multiple Six Sigma certifications.


Craig Clerkin

Craig Clerkin is a Founder and Chief Operating Officer for Heartland. Craig has over 20 years of manufacturing experience including more than 15 years in the landfill gas industry.

Prior to joining Heartland, Craig served as Vice-President for ANGI International, a leading provider of compressed natural gas equipment (CNG) process systems for the alternative fuels industry.

Craig is the co-inventor of a series of patents and pending patents supporting Heartlands Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio and has received several awards for business development overseas including the Wisconsin Governor’s Export Achievement Award, the World Trade Association Export Award for Wisconsin, the World Trade Association Export Award for Midwest and the SBA Export Award.

Craig is a Professional Engineer (PE).  He received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin.


Susan Portin

Susan Portin is the Executive Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs for Heartland.  Susan has more than 25 years of diverse global experience as a corporate attorney, M&A specialist, senior business leader and strategic management consultant.

Susan has a deep understanding of how companies operate and the challenges they face, particularly in the many areas where business intersects with law, risk, compliance and governance. She has worked in a broad array of traditional corporate and entrepreneurial business models across many industries and her experience spans a variety of key functional areas including business operations, legal, risk and compliance, M&A, administration, corporate communications, human resources, board and investor relations and strategic planning.

Susan earned a BA degree from Union College, a Masters degree in Public Relations from Boston University and a Law Degree from Emory University. She is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia and an inactive member of the Pennsylvania Bar.


David Allworth

David Allworth is the Chief Financial Officer for Heartland.  He has more than 35 years’ experience in corporate financial management & accounting. 

Prior to joining Heartland, Dave was CFO for TerraTherm, Inc., a thermal remediation services company where he drove finance and business process improvements, and lead the company through a successful sale to private equity-backed Cascade Environmental. 

Previous to TerraTherm, Dave was CFO for a start-up waste-to-energy technology company, VP Finance for a semiconductor test equipment manufacturer, and served in a variety of financial management roles for a multi-national software company. 

Dave earned his CPA certificate while working at KPMG, and received a BS in Business Administration, with concentrations in Accounting and Finance, from Oregon State University. He is an avid golfer, and lives with his wife Sandy in Brookline, MA. 


David Howard

David Howard serves as the EVP of Customer Operations. With over 25 years of Solid Waste industry experience, David brings deep financial and operational skills to the Heartland team and our customers.

Prior to joining Heartland, David held lead operational roles for Hanover County, VA and WM (Waste Management, Inc.). As a senior district manager with WM, David managed all aspects of safe daily landfill site operations, leading a team which processed over 1.8M tons of waste annually.

In his role leading Heartland’s customer operations, David will focus on supporting Heartland’s customers and helping to solve customer problems. His broad landfill management experience including permitting, landfill gas capture, and public relations will help Heartland deliver and operate complete turnkey solutions.

David earned a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science Business Administration from Strayer University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. David lives near Richmond, VA with his family.


JOHN WEIGOLD

John Weigold serves as the Senior Vice President Business Development for Heartland.  In this role, Mr. Weigold has responsibilities for marketing Heartland’s reliable, cost-effective wastewater solutions domestically into the oil & gas, solid waste landfill leachate, coal-fired power generation, and other industries.

Prior to joining Heartland, Mr. Weigold held senior positions in the environmental services, institutional banking, and private equity worlds.  Mr. Weigold presents frequently at industry events, is a guest speaker for consulting engineering firms, and serves on panels discussing topics of interest within various industries.

John received an MBA from Northeastern University and a BS in Management from the State University of New York. 


Casey Cammann

Casey Cammann is the Chief Marketing Officer for Heartland. Casey has over 20 years of experience growing businesses and brings a wide range of Marketing and Business Development experience to the Heartland team.

Prior to joining Heartland, Casey was Senior Vice President, Business Development of Innovative Foto, Inc. a division Dai Nippon Printing, a large Japanese printing and digital imaging company. Prior to Dai Nippon Printing, Mr. Cammann served as Vice President of Marketing at Phoenix Controls (a Honeywell company) which sold airflow control hardware and software for critical environments to Pharmaceutical, University and Healthcare customers. Earlier in his career, he worked as a management consultant with Accenture.

Casey holds a B.A. from Yale University, an MBA from the University of Michigan and is a former European professional basketball player.


Ricardo Bernal

Ricardo Bernal is Heartland’s Senior Vice President Strategy and GM Latin America. In this role, Ricardo will be responsible for driving all of Heartland’s activity across Latin America and will be a significant contributor to new product development strategy.

Ricardo brings 20+ years of experience in the water industry to the Heartland team. Ricardo has held different roles including Engineering, Product Management, Business Development and Business Strategy.  Prior to joining Heartland, Ricardo was responsible for business development for industrial water for Jacobs Engineering’s O&M group worldwide.

Before Jacobs Engineering, Ricardo worked for Abengoa Water as Global Industrial Director (mining, power generation, O&G, F&B and refining), managing a 15+ staff team and responsible for P&L.  Earlier in his career, Ricardo held several roles in business development, project management and product line management for the General Electric company.

Ricardo is a Civil Engineer and holds a Master in Business Administration from Boston College with an emphasis in Finance.


Louis Cassens

Louis Cassens has been part of the Heartland engineering team for 9 years.  Louis has 20 years of manufacturing experience including more than 15 years in development of mobile or skidded equipment packages. 

Prior to joining Heartland, Louis was a project engineer for a HVAC and generator equipment packager where he designed and managed projects.

Louis received a BS and MS in Agricultural Engineering from Purdue University.
