Historically, the management of produced water in the oil and gas industry has relied heavily on saltwater disposal wells (SWDs). However, the increasing linkage between SWDs and induced seismic activity has intensified the demand for alternative, more sustainable water management solutions. Evaporation is being explored as a promising solution for produced water, offering a significant reduction in the volume of water that needs to be managed, thereby addressing both environmental and operational challenges.
Unique to Heartland’s technology, the ability to leverage waste heat from a range of sources, particularly compressor banks or flared field gas in the O&G space, for evaporation presents a transformative approach in produced water management. This method not only utilizes readily available thermal energy, thus repurposing it for water treatment but also significantly reduces the volume of water that needs handling.
